Our

Story

The National Center for Arts and Technology is a non-profit organization that replicates the Manchester Bidwell Education Model by working with cities around the world to plan and open Centers for Arts + Technology.

CANCAT is joining a network of centers that each offer the MBEM in a manner that best serves their respective communities.  NCAT serves as the network administrator, drawing best practices, materials and innovative ideas from all the centers. NCAT oversees the development of replication materials, provides on-site training and technical assistance, and monitors outcomes for the programs overall.

2014

Upon the invitation of Vancouver community and philanthropic leaders, Bill Strickland (founder of NCAT) visited Vancouver several times to gauge interest and introduce the Manchester Bidwell Educational model. This resulted in the community raising the funds necessary to conduct a feasibility study to determine the need, fit and whether the necessary resources both human and financial – could be raised for CANCAT.

2016

Planning involves identifying and securing space, staff, curriculum, and establishing partnerships with local schools and employers. The highest priority was securing a physical space, which has been achieved at 884 East Pender Street, Vancouver. CANCAT will renovate this space to create a digital arts studio, an art gallery, a culinary learning kitchen and work spaces for faculty, staff and students. This property meets the requirement for public transportation and is located in the East Side of Vancouver making it easily accessible to the East Side clients it serves.

During the first years of operation, the NCAT staff will work closely with the local CANCAT team to establish quality standards and measure results.
